Strathdon School is situated in the Strathdon Valley which is the most Westerly Parish of Upper Donside. The Ladder Hills lie to the North of the valley, the Grampian Mountains to the South and Westward is Glen Avon and the Cairngorms.

The present Strathdon School was officially opened on Wednesday 20th December 1905. There was a school prior to that and as far as our records show the first Head Teacher was John Brebner Innes from 1873 – 1912. In 1958 the General purposes room, toilets and staffroom were adapted and added as was an electrical heating system.

Our School logo shows a picture of Poldhullie Bridge which is built across the River Don in close proximity to school. The bridge is a 70foot, single span bridge that was built in 1715 by John Forbes of Inverernan. The keystone is 25 feet above water level. The word ‘Poldhullie’ comes from the Gaelic and is reputed to be a place of enchantment.
